Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information Eaton County Court Docket may receive when a visitor uses the site, why it is used, and when it may be shared. By browsing or using a site feature, a visitor accepts the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

Information entered into a search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. That provider processes the query and returns its results. Eaton County Court Docket does not store or log the search terms entered through those tools.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us is retained so that it can be read and answered. It is kept within the organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Like most websites, our servers receive technical information when a page is requested. That information may include:

  • The IP address assigned to the device
  • The browser and its version
  • The device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and the time spent on them
  • The referring site, if one was provided
  • Timestamps associated with page requests

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device that can help measure how visitors use the site. Analytics services may aggregate traffic patterns, such as frequently viewed pages and exit points. Browser settings can block cookies, although some site features may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

Technical and contact information may be used to operate and improve the site. Typical uses include:

  • Maintaining site availability and load performance
  • Sending a search request to the selected partner service
  • Assessing which pages visitors use and where improvements are needed
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical problems
  • Displaying advertising that may be based on activity or interests

No Court-Record Data on File

Eaton County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case-record information. It provides general routing information to official record custodians, including the Eaton County Clerk acting as Circuit Court Clerk, the 56A District Court clerk's office, the Probate Register, and MiCOURT Case Search. This private site does not create consumer reports or assemble visitor data into reports about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Search boxes on the site are operated by outside companies. Information entered in those tools is subject to the partner's privacy practices, retention rules, and sharing decisions. Eaton County Court Docket does not control those practices. Review the partner's policy before submitting information to its service.

Links to Other Websites

The site links to court, clerk, statewide search, legal-aid, and other external resources. Once a visitor follows one of those links, the privacy practices of the destination site apply. Read the destination policy before providing personal information.

Advertising partners may also collect activity across websites in order to display interest-based advertising. That activity occurs on their systems, not on the Eaton County Court Docket system.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Information may be disclosed to the following categories when needed for the stated purpose or when legally required:

  • Search partners that process queries submitted through their tools
  • Analytics providers used to measure traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks that serve ads on the site
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use reasonable security practices for the information we receive. No internet-based system can guarantee complete security, so a breach-free service cannot be promised.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If information from a minor is believed to have been submitted, it may be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy and consumer-protection laws may provide rights concerning personal information. Michigan court-record access is a separate issue: MCR 8.119 governs public court-record inspection and copying, while MCL 15.232 excludes the judiciary and a county clerk acting as Circuit Court Clerk from the FOIA public-body definition. MCL 15.235 sets a five-business-day response period, with one extension of no more than ten business days, for a county administrative FOIA request only. It does not set a judicial case-record response time. At a minimum, a visitor may:

  • Ask for a copy of personal information held by us
  • Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Opt out of certain types of data processing where applicable

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy. A revised version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
